Stimulating Summer Internship For Students This Summer

The National Institute of Health invites students to spend the summer months working in their summer internship program. The summer internship program is dedicated to providing students with the opportunity to work beside some of today's most influential scientists in the field of biomedical research.

Students who are United States citizens and sixteen years of age or older are welcome to apply for the National Institute of Health's elite summer internship program. Students must at least be a permanent resident of the United States or enrolled part-time in an accredited United States college or high school.

The summer internship program gives students a wide selection of programs to choose from. Students interested in researching cancer are invited to work with the Center for Cancer Research while students in the Biomedical Training Program will be working with the National Heart Association, Blood Institute and the American Lung Association.

The National Cancer Institute and Johns Hopkins University is accepting student interns who are concentrating on getting a degree in biotechnology. This internship program deals with molecular targets and drug discovery technologies.

Biomedical Engineering students are encouraged to participate in the National Institute of Health's Engineering internship program. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease is also accepting applications for student summer interns who wish to be a part of the National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program Fellowship. These are just a few of the student summer internship programs that work one-on-one with the National Institute of Health.

This is an exciting opportunity to directly work with the worlds leading scientists. Perform research, search for cures and assist the scientists in making advancements in the field of biomedical research. This is a wonderful opportunity for a student who is pursuing a degree or interested in science. Make a difference this summer and lend a helping hand to the National Institute of Health.

Vital Steps in the Operations of a Biomedical Research Facility

A biomedical research facility or high containment BSL 3 facility is a microbiology laboratory where important medical advancements via testing occur using the scientific process. Biomedical research facilities are vital in the development of medical discoveries such as new drugs and medications for different diseases which could one day affect you or someone you love.

Since biomedical research facilities are very important for finding new medical developments, it is just as important for people who are in the laboratory to know the best way of maintaining the facility. This will help them properly do the test and come up with the best result that will be a good help for them in their studies. The following are the procedures that they should do in the lab.

First, it is vital that biomedical engineers or lab technicians understand the best way of preparing the equipment required for testing. This decreases any likelihood of contamination of the test cultures and ensures valid test results. Often when contamination occurs it is due to lack of preparation.

Second, proper handling of the test cultures during the flow of testing is critical to the success of the study. Without proper handling, the cultures are at risk from contaminants that will ruin the result of the test. Lab workers must know where to keep and how to handle the test culture to eliminate the possibility of dirt and other variables affecting the test results.

Thirdly, proper microbiology lab maintenance is important. Primarily this means proper cleaning in order to free the research facility from pollens, dust and other dirt. Proper cleaning of the lab lessens the possibility of culture contamination.

Lastly it is essential for the testing laboratories to hire the most efficient and expert research staff. The staffers need to be graduates of relevant courses and trained to handle cultures and maintain the laboratory properly so that the testing is valuable and helpful for society.
